Life Before Zephyr® Endobronchial Valves:
Day-to-day living feels depressing because I can't do what I used to do when I was younger. I was diagnosed with this condition 32 years ago and quit smoking 30 years ago. Physically, my body is aging, so it can't handle what it used to. Lack of adequate oxygen supply worsens the situation. Without intervention, the prognosis isn't good. While considering transplant options, it seems promising, but it's uncertain, especially given my age. Though my family tolerates me, it's not a pleasant feeling. I want to be able to walk around my garden with my wife without assistance. Mentally, I'm prepared for what's ahead, excited yet apprehensive.
Life After Zephyr Endobronchial Valves:
Exactly a month ago, I had the operation where four valves were implanted, effectively improving lung function. I've learned to breathe differently, utilizing the bottom part of my lungs more efficiently. Shortness of breath has reduced significantly. Recently, I achieved a milestone by climbing stairs without stopping, something I couldn't do before. Adjusting my eating habits has also improved my condition. I plan to step back from my active business life and focus on enjoying time with my family. Overall, I'm breathing better and optimistic about the future.
